Just finished up this fun sketch commission of a giant pirate bat!

 

Merry Christmas Triceratops! As is traditional, obviously.

 

Working on another dinosaur in the style of the recent Allosaurus! This time, Triceratops! I don't illustrate enough herbivores.

A silly idea for the Theme Park Collection I couldn't get out of my head! I love old Arrow coasters, but I've always found the hard angles of the track profiling to just be... Funny. So here's a design appreciating that!

Phoenix joins the Theme Park Collection!

I had a lot of trouble with this one. I knew I wanted to do Phoenix, but I couldn't come up with a concept I really felt conveyed the ride experience. In the end, I went along the "keep it simple" route rather than anything else. It is - after all - a very simple ride experience. Outstandingly pure.

This was an attempt to replicate the Sonic Channel 2020 art style as closely as possible, sketch and examples of official artwork can be found in this previous post.

Most commercial work is about imitation at it's core, working to a specific style. And it's hard. The arts get very hung up over originality and having individual style, when really the bulk of professional work is about meeting expectations for certain aesthetics.

This is just for fun - but I have always found it funny how frowned upon "copying" style in the professional illustration world is, despite it making up the bulk of commercial illustrative work. Especially when there is absolutely no doubt that the skill in imitation is nothing to be scoffed at.

There's a bunch "wrong" with this piece - but in scrutinising the official works, I found so many glaring inconsistencies that I stopped worrying after a while.

 I was commissioned to illustrate the background to these Lego instruction books by Inklingbricks.com There's 9 in total, but here's a few of my favourites!

I'm gonna try and mimic the 2020 Sonic Channel official art with this! It's good practice to try and copy a style, figure out how to make it work with your existing knowledge. It's also useful to have something to show clients on my ability to work to a specific style.

Really wanted to get a Knuckles in Pumpkin Hill pic finished for Halloween - but then I saw September was #KnucklesMonth on Twitter so, I wanted to get it finished before September was out. Mostly like how it turned out but I kinda wish I'd given Knuckles his accessories from this game.

 

Dragonborn D&D character commission. I like how his face turned out a lot!

 

I don't know much about Demetrodon, but thinking about it as more mammalian is a fun exercise in how we see extinct animals. I need to do more research to know how accurate this is.

 

Concavenator is a fun dinosaur. I like the theory that the weird humps are for display, so here's a male looking for a girlfriend!

 

 I don't post every bleach tee here as they would swamp the blog. But 2 of these 4 are completely new and I'm not sure I've posted any of them here before!

I've been wanting to illustrate some more dinosaurs like my linocut inspired Microraptor from waaaay back in 2016 for a while and finally sat down to actually try one, deciding on 2020's Spinosaurus! Given the huge gap between Microraptor and this guy, they aren't that stylistically similar really. 

Anyway - super happy with how he turned out. I think the details could have probably been held back a little, but it's one of those things where once you start it's hard to reign it in 'till it's too late.

I've had this idea for a fossil themed sticker sheet for a while but I finally got round to starting it this month and finishing it off this week! They'll be available in my Bleached Bones Etsy store once I get them. For now, here's a mockup!
