New bleach painted Tee! This one was a commission. A velociraptor skeleton on black.

Tuesday, 13 November 2012

I've been asked a few times to film the process of making one of the bleach painted t-shirts, so here it is.

And here's the finished design, which is available to buy over on Etsy. :)

Broken record about how I should post more... Blah blah blah.

There are, in my defense, some pieces for clients I cannot show here!

Here's a dragon I digitally sketched today, with a background and everything! He's a desert dweller, and he's sat on a rock doing what dragon's tend to do best, look badass! I'm unhappy with the way the forelimbs join to the body, but fixing that will have to wait until another time now.

I also notice that my blog followers is at 99! When I finally get to 100 I'll do some sort of a giveaway where every follower has a chance of winning something! So share my blog with your friends, wont you? :)

Another pirate themed adventure golf for RockArtUK. Thrown in a sketch of the ship too. Enjoy!

Thursday, 5 July 2012

Mixed media on paper painting of a common old boring British house. Cuz I like to paint stuff like that. I really like aerials and telephone polls, too.

Sorry for being so quiet recently. Lots going on. I'm currently in the USA on holiday. I think I brought the weather with me, it's raining like crazy, so today seemed like a good idea to update the blog!

Here's some themed environment visuals I've done recently for RockArtUK.

I've also updated my portfolio today, so take a look. :)

Coloured sketch of the Shadow Room, the second major section of the Fenrir dark ride. The main purpose of this scene was to give the ride some kind of context and a slowish build up after a false start, with the wolf appearing as a shadow.

Tuesday, 27 March 2012

Some Fenrir drawings from a small sketchbook. Most of these were done on trains, ha.

Couple of scene sketches here... This first one isn't great, but shows the sleeping Fenrir bound in the roots of the tree. He awakens and rips free as you leave the room, so you don't actually see it but hear it.

At first I hated the idea of this room but it's growing on me now, as part of a slow start to give some context before you realise you haven't escaped the wolf and it's time to panic. Great opportunity for colour in this room too, with that pool being the light source for icy blue bio luminescent nonsensicalness. And the wolf to appear in shadow form, which would be a nice "he's following you..." before you leave the room.

Been thinking a bit about what this ride would be called. I think "Ragnarok" isn't appropriate, because it's too long and unfamiliar to remember. And "Fenrir" is not only bland but doesn't feel nice to the tongue. "Fenris" is better... So I'm thinking "The Legend of Fenris" is going to be rather nice. "The legend of..." gives it a bit of context and an explanation of what to expect without actually being an important part of the title, if that makes sense?

I'm blabbing...

It's been a while since I did a full digital paint of Arrow. Or anything, for that matter!

I had this idea for a picture back at the start of the year and scribbled it down, but decided to take it to Photoshop just over a week ago.

It's probably 3 solid days work at a guess. I found a brush I really like to use. The perspective is bothersome, but I'm rather proud of the colour choices in this, for the most part.

Arrow was 8 back in February. Crazy. Scares me a bit how life speeds up as you get older.

The Fenrir ride entrance doodle from a few weeks back, with quick colours. Just experimenting to see how long something like this takes me. This took 2 hours, which is still too long, is a little shabby in places and lacks a background, but practice, practice, practice!

No directional lighting on this either, poor form... In fact, I didn't think about the colour on this anywhere near as much as I should have.

I should also mention that my dog passed away a week ago, aged 15. We had her since a puppy, my father even watched her being born, so she's been around for most of my life. I can't even recall what it was like before she was around. It feels weird here.

I had a sudden urge to make a box. And I wondered, what to make a box for?

Came up with the idea to create packs of postcards in a little giftbox. This is a prototype... And I'm giving it away for free!

This painting was created practically right after the one of Greenwich, but I kept forgetting to scan it. So here it is. It's mixed media... Tissue paper, gel mediums, watercolour, acrylic and pen.

Both it and the one of Greenwich are available as prints on Etsy.

In other news, I managed to reach 250 likes on the Facebook page! Thanks everyone! In celebration I'm going a giveaway, so make sure to check that out...

Sunday, 19 February 2012

This is a little bit of a spam post, but I so rarely do them I hope you'll let me off!

I'm trying to reach 250 fans on my Facebook page and when I do I'm going to do another giveaway. Everyone who likes the page will have a chance to win something and winners will be picked at random. Prises will be a few different things I've made... Ooooooo!

I use the Facebook page to post about new blog posts, sometimes work in progress, other cool art and stuff that I find, art I'm selling and promotions and discounts for my shops.

Thanks for taking the time to have a look and good luck in the giveaway!

New mixed media painting. This one is of a street in Greenwich, London, from a photo I took a couple of years ago. Went for that murky rainy grungy look I usually go for... It portrays London how it really is - beautiful, but... well, pretty dirty and run down. But that's kinda what makes it special, with the usual miss-match of architecture from different periods and styles, being used for purposes for which they were never intended.

Mixed papers, gel mediums, acrylic, watercolor and ink on watercolour paper. Prints shall be available soon.

Sketches from the V&A yesterday. None of them are very good. I'm rather out of practice, it would seem. Dave and I have decided to make it a monthly event to get out and draw together.

Sunday, 5 February 2012

A bit random. Just fancied painting a cheetah. Turns out they are really difficult to draw. Gouache and acrylic on paper. Also, I need to start stretching paper before I work on it, because the wrinkles on this were a joke. The tree looks a bit wintery lmao.

I was inspired to start writing down a narrative for the Fenrir dark ride concept today, and an idea for the entrance came to mind.

The dragon is finished!

The details could be a lot better...

But overall I'm pleased. First full colour finished picture of a dragon I've done in literally cannot recall how many years. I need to finish more work, there is something so deeply satisfying about it yet I so rarely stick personal work through to completion. I enjoy the whimsical scribbling and messyness of sketching and  immediate art, and find myself bored when I get to the serious stages when you need to actually think about what you're doing.

Maybe, if he's lucky, he'll get some kind of background... Though perhaps that's pushing it.

Friday, 27 January 2012

Just something for fun because I like to make messy art. Fenrir character design, ink and acrylic on watercolour paper.

Tuesday, 24 January 2012

Couple of watercolours from today. A dragon from imagination (obv... lols).

And one from a photo ref. I like the trees in the background, but otherwise eugh.

Monday, 23 January 2012

A couple of meh watercolours I did this morning. I seem to really struggle with the idea of detail in the foreground and not in the background. Seems simple in my head, but... never seems to work out.

Saturday, 21 January 2012

I started adding colour to the dragon. He's raising up on his back legs slightly and showing his flushed neck in some kind of display.

Fenrir related scribble. Idon'treallyknow.

Friday, 20 January 2012

Photoshop sketch of a dragon. That raised arm is dreadful and needs to be fixed. Otherwise he's quite nice.

Wednesday, 18 January 2012

I really, really need to start drawing daily again... And working on a project. And working digitally.

I've been thinking that perhaps the way I've been tackling ride concepts is a bit too... I dunno, too "how I've been taught to do a project" and not enough "make some work". I try, in my head, to make a concept work before I even get it down on paper and that's a backwards habit that needs breaking. I guess this applies to anything though, not just creating ride concepts. I've got to change my project habits completely.

So here is a quick doodle of Fenrir to warm me up.

Wednesday, 4 January 2012

Another forest painting. This one is too big for the scanner so the picture looks a bit faded. Light isn't great today. I like the background more than the trees.

Tuesday, 3 January 2012

Really wanted to do some kind of textural painting inspired by the foresty areas along the side of highways in much of the US. Bare, thin, tall trees with a crisp blue sky behind. This didn't turn out really how I invisaged, but I'd still kind of nice for a quick thing.
