Oh man, I started this thing in 2015 I think. I randomly started working on it yesterday on the iPad whilst I was helping a friend with their CV. I was going to colour it on the iPad too, but honestly I think the limitations of Procreate to 7 layers might be a problem, ha.

Finished concept illustration for Wild Woods. Feels good to get some personal themed design work done, everything I've done in the past year has been under NDA.

There's a pit style wolf habitat one side and a free flying bat walk through the other. A ramp leads down to a subterranean level where guests can view the wolves at their ground level and access the bat walk-through. I decided to go with windows even on the upper level of the pit, because that prevents guests dropping things or, ya know, climbing into the exhibit.

Yesterday I sat down and taught myself how to use SketchUp, a skill I've been meaning to spend serious time developing for a while. I'm still far from capable, but I at least understand how it works now...

So I decided to have a go at building a concept for an animal exhibit I first thought about years ago but didn't know how to illustrate it, or even really how it would work. It was the perfect use for SketchUp.

Essentially it's two animal exhibits as part of one theme, something I'm calling "Wild Woods". There's a conventional pit style enclosure, but a ramp leads down to a lower level and there's also a walk through enclosure themed to a cave down there.

I've been working on this on and off for a week now... A tribute to Dueling Dragon's, which met its end in 2017. It's been a rocky few years for the pair of coasters; rethemed to Harry Potter, stripped of their dueling following H&S concerns and ultimately the land they sat on was valuble Harry Potter expansion. Fair enough. Whilst it seems sad and wasteful to say goodbye to two perfectly good roller coasters, it speaks volumes for the power of the Harry Potter brand and Universal's attraction quality being so far above the majority of the industry. Here were two coasters most parks would consider their signature rides, but at Universal, they weren't worth keeping. I look forward to whatever Universal replaces them with.

Available on T-shirts, posters, etc. from my Redbubble.
